Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia wine tasting in Sirmione
Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia wine tasting
An evening dedicated to the two white wines of southern Lake Garda: Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia. Four glasses from four wineries, presented by Adele Gorni Silvestrini, Food & Wine marketing consultant, with a board of cheese and cured meats in the Talent Kitchen kitchen in Sirmione.
The four wines
- Selva Capuzza – “Campo del Soglio”, San Martino della Battaglia
- Patrizia Cadore – San Martino della Battaglia
- Capotesta – Lugana
- Tenuta Roveglia – “Vigne di Catullo”, Lugana Riserva
Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia: two wines, one area
The two appellations were born a few kilometres apart, between Sirmione, Desenzano and Pozzolengo. Lugana is the best-known white wine of the lake; San Martino della Battaglia is a small, lesser-known DOC. Tasting them side by side is the easiest way to see how different two wines from the same land can be.
How it went
Everyone at one long table, with glasses and a tasting sheet. First the San Martino della Battaglia wines, then the Lugana: for each wine the story of the winery, then the tasting and a comparison of the aromas using the aroma wheel on screen.
The pairing
A board of cheese and cured meats with bread, served with the wines.
